Bayer Leverkusen managing director, Simon Rofles, is rooting for Victor Boniface to rediscover his best form at the club.

Boniface hit the ground running at the start of last season following his arrival from Belgian Pro League outfit, Union St Gilloise.

The 23-year-old registered 16 goals and nine assists in the first half of the season for Die Werkself.

The forward was however sidelined for four months after sustaining an injury during Nigeria’s preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Boniface returned to action towards the end of the season but failed to hit form.

Rofles believes Boniface will be at his best again once the new season starts.

“After such an injury, it is not so easy (for Boniface) to regain that explosiveness in order to be able to fully enter into duels – physically, but also mentally,” Rolfes told Kicker.

“It always takes a little time, also to regain confidence in yourself and your body. He’ll be in a completely different state at the start of the season.”
