Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, scored his first goal at this year’s Copa America as they defeated Canada 2-0 in the semi-final on Tuesday night.

Julian Alvarez had opened the scoring in the first half, before Messi doubled their advantage five minutes after the break.

It was the 14th of his career at the Copa tournament.

La Albiceleste have now qualified for their second consecutive final, after featuring in the 2021 edition.

It puts Messi and his team-mates on the brink of winning Argentina’s 16th Copa América title, which would pull them ahead of Uruguay for the most all-time.

Uruguay and Colombia will play each other in the second semi-final today.
