Germany defeated Scotland 5-1 in the opening match of the 2024 European Championship.

The hosts were three goals up by half time, as they took control of the game from the kick off.

Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz (penalty) all scored as the Germans went 3-0 up.

Scotland had Ryan Porteous sent off before the break for a dangerous tackle on Ilkay Gundogan inside the area.

In the second half, substitute Niclas Fullkrug extended their lead, before Antonio Rudiger headed into his own net.

There was enough time for Emre Can to curl one effort into the bottom corner.
