Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has tipped Ivory Coast to beat Nigeria when both teams clash at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, on Thursday evening.

According to Akpeyi, Ivory Coast will have huge supporters compared to Nigeria as they play in front of thousands of compatriots at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

Ivory Coast won their first Group A tie 2-0 against Guinea-Bissau, while Nigeria played 1-1 with Equatorial Guinea.

A win for the host nation will see them secure six points and a spot in the knockout round of the AFCON.

“It is going to be a tough game against Ivory Coast, as they are the host country,” Akpeyi said, as per Sowetan Live.

“I am giving it to the hosts because they will have huge support at the stadium, but again, this is football and anything can happen.

“I remember in 2019, Bafana defeated Egypt when they were the hosts, so if Nigeria show up, they can upset Ivory Coast.”

The kick-off time for the match is 6 pm.
