Paul Scholes has hit out at his former teammate Tim Howard for suggesting that Kobbie Mainoo should model his game after Arsenal’s Declan Rice rather than following in the footsteps of the legendary Manchester United midfielder.

In his column for the Daily Mail, Howard discussed the recent comparisons between Mainoo and Scholes, urging the 19-year-old England midfielder to emulate Rice.

He wrote, “For me, there is another midfielder who Kobbie should look to for a blueprint on how to develop his game: Declan Rice. He’s had a breakout season at Arsenal because he’s now been freed up to explore what it’s like in the other penalty area.”

However, Scholes was not impressed with Howard’s viewpoint.

The former England international responded to the American’s column on Instagram, saying, “Talking [s**t] Timothy… night!”

Mainoo is Manchester United’s standout central midfielder this season.

He scored five goals this season for Man United, including in the FA Cup final against Man City, as well as in matches against Liverpool and Manchester City.

He provided an assist in 32 appearances for the club.
