Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid has opted not to pursue Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, according to AS.

Ndidi was offered to the La Liga club, but they declined, prioritizing other midfield targets.

However, Simeone’s side is more interested in acquiring Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, who appears out of favour with manager Ange Postecoglou, and Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer.

Ndidi’s contract with Leicester City will expire next month.

A potential move to Atletico Madrid would have provided the Nigeria international with the chance to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Ndidi has attracted interest from several clubs, including Barcelona, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Wolves.

His Premier League experience and quality have made him a desirable target for several clubs, though his next destination remains uncertain.

He played a key role for Leicester’s promotion back to the Premier League.
