Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has expressed mixed feelings on Umar Sadiq’s return to full fitness.
Sadiq was dropped from Nigeria’s squad at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after sustaining a knee injury in a friendly against Guinea.
The 26-year-old was replaced by Trabzonspor forward, Paul Onuachu.
Sadiq, who was expected to be sidelined for three weeks, was pictured in training this week.
The lanky hitman has also been listed for Real Sociedad’s Copa del Rey clash with Osasuna.
“I’m confused with the situation. He had a test after sustaining the injury and I was told he won’t be able to train for 15 days” Peseiro told reporters.
“I wanted him to stay and he wanted to stay too. We later decided to replace him.
“I’m happy he has recovered but I’m sad he is not here with us.”
