Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum has said his side was unlucky not to score more goals in the first leg of their 2024 Olympics qualifier against South Africa.
Waldrum’s team defeated the African champions 1-0 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Friday night.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade scored the winning goal from the spot three minutes before the break.
The Super Falcons could have scored more goals but for the bravery of Banyana Banyana goalie, Kaylin Swart, who made a number of crucial saves, especially in the second half.
“We were unfortunate not to get two, three goals,” Waldrum said after the game.
“I think the defence stood strong even with new players.
“(Chinwendu) Ihezuo was fantastic, she was the player of the match even if she didn’t score, her hold-up play was great, she has been playing well in Mexico this season, I think they were not prepared for her.”
The two teams will clash in the reverse fixture in Pretoria next Tuesday.
