Nottingham Forest have been deducted four points for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules, causing them to be relegated into the danger zone.

Forest is now one point behind Luton Town, which has claimed the 17th position.

The Premier League is expected to make an official statement about the matter.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest is likely to file an appeal as they were charged with a breach of financial regulations during the January transfer window.

Although the club accepted the financial breach, their defence was based on ‘extenuating circumstances’ relating to the sale of forward Brennan Johnson last summer.

The news of the points deduction could negatively impact the team’s morale and their fight to avoid relegation, which is becoming more challenging.
