The 2023 Young Progressives Party House of Assembly candidate for Ohafia south constituency in Abia State, Arua Goodluck Egwu, has defected to the ruling Labour Party (LP) in the state.

This comes barely 24 hours ago, an ex-member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Jerry Uzosike, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the LP after meeting Governor Alex Otti on Monday.

However, Mr Egwu, in a resignation letter addressed to the YPP Chairman of Ebem Ward in Ohafia local government area of Abia State, and issued to newsmen on Tuesday, said he took the bold decision after wide consultations with critical political stakeholders and hundreds of his supporters across five local electoral wards in Ohafia South State Constituency.

He partly said: “I wish to formally resign my membership of the Young Progressives Party with effect from the date of this letter. This is for personal reasons after wide consultations with friends and members of my family.

“I want to thank the party for the opportunities afforded me to have served the state in my own little capacity.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have served under YPP.

“I am proud of the work we have accomplished together, and I have the utmost respect for the party leadership and my fellow members.”
