Several members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, led by the immediate past General Manager of the Abia State Roads Maintenance Agency (ABROMA), Okochi Okali-Oge, have switched allegiance to the ruling Labour Party (LP) in the state.
He made this in a statement released to the press on Friday in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
Recall that Okali-Oge was the candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) for the Ohafia North constituency seat in Abia State during the 2023 State House of Assembly elections conducted by the Nigeria Electoral Commission.
However, he was defeated by the candidate of the Labour Party, who currently serves as the member representing Ohafia North constituency in the state legislative house.
Subsequently, Okali-Oge moved from the APP to the former ruling PDP in Abia State.
In a recent statement, Mr Okali-Oge cited the lack of internal democracy within the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party as the primary reason for his political transition.
The Abia stalwart said that his decision to join the Labour Party was motivated by the serious commitment and diligence demonstrated by Governor Alex Otti, highlighting the significant strides made by the present administration in the state’s infrastructural development.
In his words, “I have witnessed firsthand a government that upholds its promises to the people under the Labour Party, and I have chosen to align with them in advancing the progress of our state.”
Mr Okali-Oge also expressed his readiness to support the government by offering his knowledge and wealth of experience gained over the years in engineering for the development of Abia State.
