The rerun election in the Delta State House of Assembly, Ethiope-West Constituency, was on Saturday marred by low turnout of voters in the various polling units and wards.
DAILY POST correspondent who monitored the election, reports that the people of Oghara, Mosogar and Jesse Communities were seen going about their normal businesses in Ethiope-West Local Government Area.
Though security personnel and INEC ad-hoc staff were on ground at the various polling units and wards visited, there was largely voter apathy.
In a chat with our correspondent, the INEC Electoral Officer in Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Mrs. Beauty Ibiama, said sensitive election materials were distributed to the various polling stations as early as 6 a.m., pointing out that voting had commenced since 8:30am.
Mrs Ibiama explained that the people who were seen going about their businesses are in the areas where elections did not hold.
She said INEC covered five wards, including Mosogar I&II, Jesse V and Oghara I and II in the ongoing rerun election.
She also confirmed that there have been no reported cases of ballot snatching or electoral violence, to the best of her knowledge, as far as the ongoing election is concerned.
As of the time of filing this report, the elections are yet to conclude.
