The Yobe State Government has described as unfortunate that some people have already started scheming for the 2027 governorship to succeed Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Senior Special Assistant on Digital and Strategic Communications to the Yobe State Government, Yusuf Ali, expressed this displeasure on his Facebook account.

He noted that those eyeing the seat seem to forget that “it is Almighty Allah who gives power to whom He wills and takes from whom He wills.”

According to the SSA, Governor Buni did not become governor through scheming, emphasizing that it is Allah who gives power.

“We are all aware of how Gaidam prayed fervently and even urged citizens to pray for Allah to reveal his successor in the build-up to the 2019 general elections.

“But as Almighty Allah had destined, Mai Mala Buni emerged worthily and succeeded Gaidam as governor. Is this not enough for people to understand that it is Allah who gives power?”

“The Holy Quran categorically declares that power belongs to Allah. He gives it to whomsoever He pleases and takes it away from whomsoever He pleases,” he said.

According to reports, the political landscape of Yobe State is becoming charged and tense as the race for Government House begins.

It was also gathered that three prominent people have reportedly shown interest in clinching the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC): former Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, Senator Ibrahim Bomai of Yobe South Senatorial District, and the incumbent Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Baba Mallam Wali.

Though none of them has publicly declared an intention to vie for the state’s top seat, political analysts have described their recent political moves as an “agenda for 2027.”
