CNN anchor Kate Bolduan checked Donald Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt for interrupting her on Wednesday as she pointed out the GOP nominee’s hypocrisy with his several lies on the federal government’s hurricane response.
Bolduan noted that one of Trump’s debunked claims, that the Biden administration is taking Federal Emergency Management Agency money for Hurricane Helene recovery to spend on housing for migrants, is “not true.”
“I don’t think the American people care which pocket the money came from,” Leavitt replied.
Bolduan later dropped a fact-check on her.
“Ironically, Donald Trump attempted something very similar to what he falsely now is claiming about them. In 2019, Trump used FEMA ―,” the anchor said before Leavitt cut her off.
“The American ―,” Leavitt said.
“I’m talk ― let me finish,” said Bolduan, who continued to note that Trump took money from FEMA’s disaster fund for migrant programs at the U.S.-Mexico border during his administration.
She later continued, “So is he ― is he then OK with moving disaster relief funds for dealing with migrants but now is not? Is that what you’re saying?”
Leavitt continued to dodge Bolduan’s questions and claimed that the federal government has “botched” its response to Hurricane Helene.
“We will take the word of residents in North Carolina, in Florida, in Georgia who have been left behind over the word of this administration which has repeatedly been caught in lies,” Leavitt declared.
“Also, the word of Republican member of Congress who says that these rumors that Donald Trump has been pushing, in part, the things he’s been saying, is not true,” replied Bolduan, referring to Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.) slamming hurricane response rumors earlier this week.
She then knocked the spokesperson for claiming that Vice President Kamala Harris has “yet to answer the question” on whether she plans to deport millions of immigrants or provide housing for them.
“But I’m not hearing you answer the question of why it was OK for the Trump administration to use disaster relief funds in order to deal with migrants in 2019 and it is now completely not OK and something he’s hitting the administration on now,” said Bolduan as she cut away from Leavitt.
“We’re going to leave it there because I offered you three times to give me the answer and I’m not getting it.”
