The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stated its reasons for boycotting the upcoming local government election scheduled for October 5.
State PDP chairman Aaron Chukwuemeka cited an ongoing legal case initiated by the Tony Okocha-led faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as a key factor in the decision.
Chukwuemeka made this known during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Chukwuemeka is reportedly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The PDP recently conducted its congresses in the state after securing a legal victory in a case brought by the former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, David Omereji, and others.
The group that instituted the case are loyal to the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
