The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State says Senator Ned Nwoko has vindicated its long-held belief that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is allegedly mismanaging the resources of the state.
The party said this in reaction to a video where Nwoko had accused the governor of underperformance.
In a statement signed by Delta State APC Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, he claimed that the state was experiencing one of the worst cases of “misgovernance and mismanagement” due to gross inefficiency of the governor.
The party said, “The governor should brace up and address the sorry state of infrastructural developments in the State as Deltans expects nothing less.
“It is no longer news that Delta State receives the highest monthly FAAC allocations from the federation account as confirmed by Sen. Ned Nwoko who stated that the State monthly allocation of over 40 billion naira is equivalent to the allocations of five states in the country, and yet Delta State continues to wallow in underdevelopment and infrastructural decay in comparison to those states, especially when juxtaposed with the amount of funds available to the State.
“It would be recalled that the APC in the State had earlier raised the alarm of the debilitating consequences of these suspicious debts incurred in controversial circumstances by Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, the grandfather of the ‘prosperity for all’ deception and Oborevwori, his political ‘man Friday’ would have on the finances of the State, as events had shown that the governor prefers paying these debts rather than embark on massive capital infrastructural developments with the humongous revenues, to positively impact the lives of Deltans.”
It added that, “Unfortunately, Delta APC has observed with disappointment how the state governor, under Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori continues to act in ways that are diametrically detrimental to the overall development of the State, as it is unimaginable how a governor who was supposedly elected by the electorates has decided to play irredentist tribal politics with matters pertaining to the development of the State.
“Delta State APC is not surprised that rather than appreciate the initiative of Sen. Nwoko for calling on the state governor to invest in the Okpai independent power project and other laudable projects that would greatly improve the lives of Deltans, hirelings of the State government chose to vilify the senator for exposing the apparent ineptitude of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori and his failure to understand the fundamentals of good governance and the overriding importance of placing the development of the State as the cornerstone agenda of any responsible government.
“The critical question that needs an answer- how does a state like Delta with a monthly federal subvention of over 40 billion, continue to lag behind states with less revenue in terms of infrastructural developments if not for the obvious reason that the present state governor is mindlessly blinded to the need of ensuring an equitable and even development of the State as a top priority of his administration.
“It’s laughable that the State government is attacking Sen Nwoko to stop pressurizing the governor to use Delta State funds for federal government projects when in the final analysis, it is the people of the State that would ultimately be the beneficiaries of those projects.
“Even if Deltans believe the flimsy excuse of the governor of paying debts, it is pertinent to ask whether it is the entire 40 billion monthly allocation that is being used to service those debts.”
