There is growing discontent in the Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as some party stalwarts are complaining over the political appointments made by Governor Umar Namadi.
They are accusing the governor of giving appointments to incompetent persons.
One of the prominent members of the APC in the state, Musbahu Jamilu Dantaura, expressed concerns and disapproval over the competence of the governor’s numerous political appointees.
Speaking in a Radio programs, Dantaura alleged that 70 percent of the appointees are incompetent and may jeopardize the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
He argued that many of the appointees lack the necessary experience and skills to effectively contribute to the state’s governance.
Dantaura emphasized the need for Governor Namadi to reassess his appointments and consider individuals with a deeper understanding of the state’s political landscape and a commitment to the welfare of the citizens.
The criticism comes amid growing discontent among APC supporters, who feel neglected by some commissioners and appointees.
Some have described the appointments as “preposterous”, while others have praised the contributions of a few commissioners and special advisers who have worked with previous administrations.
Namadi has defended his appointments as promoting inclusiveness in governance, but Dantaura and other stakeholders believe that competence and experience should be prioritized to ensure effective governance and maintain the party’s credibility
However, responding to the allegations, the spokesman of the Governor, Hamisu Gumel, said several issues were considered the appointments were made.
He said, “Apart from the issues of competence the Governor looked at political consideration of the person’s constituency representation and his influence as far as government is concerned.”
Gumel said those appointed by the governor are “personalities of sound character, sound political pedigree, sound governmental trajectory and above all fear of God and prudent profiles”.
