Former GOP Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich offered a novel idea for a debate between presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris ― and some Harris supporters were all for it.

As the camps fought over the Harris team’s effort to keep the microphones on at all times for their moderated Sept. 10 debate on ABC, Gingrich on Tuesday proposed a wildly different kind of showdown. (Watch the video below.)

“I personally think that Trump should offer to debate her on ... C-SPAN and on a straight-up no media,” he said on Fox News. “She gets to ask him questions. He gets to ask her questions. ... I think the country would find it refreshing to actually have ... two serious potential leaders talk direct to each other.”

While host Sean Hannity was likely correct when he responded, “You know that’s not gonna happen,” some on the left (and others) thought it was a pretty good idea.

“That would actually be kinda awesome. The prosecutor getting to direct the felon,” one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
