MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin said on Sunday that Vice President Kamala Harris is taking the words freedom and liberty “right out of Republicans’ mouths.”

While the GOP has tried to claim those words for years, Harris and running mate Tim Walz are taking them back in their campaign against Donald Trump.

Mohyeldin said there’s a reason it’s working.

“Over the past few decades, Republicans have stopped being the natural conduits of that message,” he said. “Not when they’re the ones fighting tooth and nail to control women’s bodies or to control which books children can read, to control which bathrooms people can use.”

He noted that Beyoncé even gave the Harris campaign permission to use her song “Freedom” to help drive the message home.

Mohyeldin said reclaiming freedom and liberty resonates not just with Democrats but also with Republicans who don’t want to vote for Trump.
