Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, shared a heartfelt message with Tim Walz’s wife in a phone call on Tuesday following the announcement that the Minnesota governor will be Harris’ running mate.

In a post on X captioned “Welcome to the team, Gwen. I’ve got your back,” the second gentleman captured a phone call that he had with Walz’s wife and shared words of support, emphasizing that he was in the same position a few years ago.

“Gwen, I remember getting this call four years ago,” he said, reflecting on when President Joe Biden selected Harris to be his vice president. “I actually know what you’re going through right now. But the good news is, I’ve already been through it. So just like Dr. Biden was there for me… I’m going to be there for you, and we’re going to do this together.”

Harris selected Walz to be her running mate on Tuesday, choosing him over Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who were reportedly vetted as potential vice presidential candidates.

She and Walz were slated to speak Tuesday night at a rally in Philadelphia. According to the video, Emhoff and Walz’s wife, Gwen, will be joining them at the rally.
