Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) on Monday didn’t sugarcoat his opinion of former President Donald Trump for the audience of conservative Fox News.
Swalwell laid it on the line about the GOP presidential nominee during a discussion with anchor Martha MacCallum about President Joe Biden’s campaign exit, Biden’s lack of public appearances since his announcement and Vice President Kamala Harris’ likely replacement of Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket.
“The Joe that I know is somebody who did something that Donald Trump would never, ever do, which is to put the country first,” Swalwell said at one point.
He contrasted “selfless” Biden with “selfish” Trump.
Swalwell highlighted the relative lack of controversies in Biden’s administration compared to Trump’s White House and noted how Biden’s Cabinet “will show up at Kamala Harris’ acceptance of her nomination speech. Donald Trump wasn’t able to say that.”
The lawmaker later summed up the essence of a Trump-Harris matchup:
“This is gonna be a race now about the past, in Donald Trump, or the future, and also rights or reversal. The rights she’ll protect, especially a woman’s right to make a decision about her body , and the rights that, like that, Donald Trump has taken away with his Supreme Court nominees.”
