Actor and longtime Democratic fundraiser George Clooney has reportedly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination, with his support coming nearly two weeks after his op-ed calling for President Joe Biden to end his reelection campaign.
“President Biden has shown what true leadership is. He’s saving democracy once again. We’re all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest,” Clooney said in a statement to CNN.
Clooney’s support follows him publicly calling for Biden to end his campaign in an op-ed published in The New York Times that drew mixed emotions from Democrats.
The actor, who last month helped raise around $30 million toward Biden’s reelection, called out the president’s poor debate performance against Trump while warning that Democrats wouldn’t win with Biden as their nominee.
“Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw,” he said.
Clooney added that Biden’s performance at the debate was similar to how he personally saw him at the June fundraiser.
Attempts to reach a Clooney representative were not immediately successful.
