Joe Biden on Friday mocked Donald Trump over the former president’s wild electrocution versus shark rant.
“Trump would rather be electrocuted than eaten by a shark, remember that whole thing, remember that?” the Democratic president asked the crowd at a rally in Detroit, referring to comments that his GOP rival made last month.
“Poor Donald. He can’t even watch TV this week because it’s Shark Week.”
The joke got laughs out of his supporters just as Discovery Channel’s Shark Week programming block reached its tail end for the summer.
The remarks arrived as Biden — who has faced calls in recent weeks to prove that he is mentally fit to lead the nation or else exit the 2024 presidential race — mocked Trump’s “rambling,” including his talk of the fictional cannibal Hannibal Lecter.
Sharks are said to be one of the former president’s fears. Porn star Stormy Daniels — whose alleged affair with Trump was at the center of this year’s hush money trial — told InTouch in 2018 that he was “obsessed with sharks,” as she recalled him watching Shark Week programming on TV.
“He was like, ‘I donate to all these charities and I would never donate to any charity that helps sharks. I hope all the sharks die,’” Daniels said of Trump, who has denied her claims of an affair.
“He was like riveted,” she said. “It’s so strange, I know.”
Trump has previously spoken out against sharks on social media, declaring that he’s “not a fan” and that they’re “last on my list - other than perhaps the losers and haters of the World!”
Like Biden, Trump has faced questions about his mental fitness. The former president was reportedly unable to “keep a thought straight” in a recent meeting with CEOs. In public speeches, he’s also misnamed his ex-doctor and asked what happens to electric planes when the “sun isn’t shining.”
