Kwara State’s main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has fixed June 26-27, 2024, for councilorship and chairmanship primary elections ahead of the forthcoming local council elections in the state.
A statement by the spokesman of the party, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, in Ilorin, said “the party will adopt primary elections and or ratifications where applicable to determine its candidates across the 16 local government areas of the state.
“This is in furtherance of our party’s commitment to true democracy where people’s rights to aspire to serve are strictly protected.”
The party also fixed nomination form fees for aspirants in the elections scheduled for September 21, 2024.
The chairmanship expression of interest form is N20,000, while nomination form attracts N80,000, making a total of N100,000.
For the councilorship, expression of interest form cost N5,000 and nomination Form is N20,000, amounting to a total of N25,000.
“The sale of forms for those interested in Chairmanship and Councillorship seats will commence 22nd June, 2024, and will close on 25th June, 2024.
“By implication, all forms collected by aspirants must be filled and returned to the state office no later than Tuesday, 25th June, 2024.
“Additionally, female and the physically challenged aspirants are to pay 50% of the above rates for the nominations and the expressions of interest forms.
“This measure aims to encourage gender inclusions and deepen the inclusion of various strata of our society in the PDP’s programme for these elections,” the statement stated.
