Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) shared a little background on her viral Oversight Committee hearing clash last month with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
“Marjorie is a little slow,” she said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday when asked about the skirmish that erupted after Greene insulted her eyelashes.
She explained that she had waited all day for the hearing, which had originally been scheduled for the morning, because several Republican lawmakers had gone to New York to support Donald Trump at his hush money trial.
She said Greene began griping about the trial, even though the hearing was intended to discuss a totally separate matter.
“So now I’m upset, because it’s already late at night, I’ve been here all day, ready to work, y’all weren’t here, and you’re still talking about that failed trial,” she told Jimmy Kimmel. “So, I had to ask her if she understood, because she’s not the brightest, and ultimately...”
“She attacked you,” Kimmel said.
“She did,” said Crockett.
The May 16 hearing of the GOP-led committee devolved into chaos after Greene told Crockett, “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”
After several minutes of back and forth, committee leadership allowed Greene to continue speaking, prompting Crockett to ask, “I’m just curious, just to better understand your ruling. If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond, bad-built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”
Crockett said the first person she heard from about the incident was her pastor ― but it wasn’t what you’d expect.
“My pastor actually called me while we were in the hearing,” she recalled. “And so I send him to voicemail and I’m like, ‘I’m in a hearing,’ and he’s like, ‘I know. The next time you say “bleach blond, bad-built, butch body,” please let me know so I don’t have water in my mouth and spit it out.’”
Kimmel asked if Crockett had seen Greene since the incident, and if it was civil.
Crockett said she had seen her, but “we don’t talk.”
“Is she the dumbest person in the House of Representatives?” Kimmel followed up.
“Um, I’d be hard-pressed to find someone dumber,” said Crockett.
Asked if it’s only Democrats who aren’t fans of Greene, Crockett replied, “her people don’t like her either,” adding that several Republican lawmakers had given her the proverbial thumbs-up afterward.
