Former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon will likely do time in a prison that can house violent offenders ― a far cry from a minimum-security “Club Fed” facility, CNN reported Tuesday.
“Not at all what Steve Bannon was wanting here,” reporter Katelyn Polantz told “OutFront” host Erin Burnett. (Watch the video below.)
The far-right “War Room” podcaster has been ordered to report to the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, on July 1 while he continues his likely futile fight to avoid serving his four-month sentence for contempt of Congress, according to the network.
The low-security prison is a more restrictive environment than a minimum-security facility, Polantz explained to Burnett.
“He had expected ― and his lawyers had expected ― that he’s non-violent, he had not had any prior convictions,” Polantz said. “And so, maybe he would go to a prison camp, very minimal security in the federal system. That’s not what’s happening.”
Polantz described the layout.
“So, he’s behind ‘The Wall,’ is what they call it,” she said. “It’s different than a camp. It has more confines for the inmates that are kept there. Also, violent offenders can be kept in a low-security prison like the one Bannon is going to.”
The election-denying Bannon could potentially land in New York City’s “notorious” Rikers Island later if he’s already incarcerated while he goes on trial in New York for allegedly defrauding donors to a border wall-building fund. Bannon is accused of skimming contributions for personal use. That court proceeding is reportedly scheduled to begin in September.
Bannon was ordered to report to prison by a federal judge earlier this month, nearly two years after he was convicted of defying a subpoena from a Jan. 6 House committee.
