The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State has begun the reconciliation process to unite the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The party leadership from the state to ward levels met at the State Party Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday to strategize and unite the party ahead of the governorship election.
Speaking at the event tagged ‘Unity Meeting’, Senator Biodun Olujimi called on the party leaders to come together and bring the party back to reckoning.
She appealed to them to forgive each other and think outside the box on how to generate resources for the party to come back to limelight.
She said: “This is a shadow of what PDP used to be. We were united. We should forgive each other. We are all here for a purpose which is congress. If we don’t leave that, it will be very hard to progress.
“Let’s talk to each other at the ward level so that everything will be okay. We should think outside the box, couple the resources and bring out the best from the party. If we don’t do that, we are just wasting out time.”
On his part, the State Party Chairman, Engr. Alaba Agboola revealed that a reconciliation committee has been set up to unite leaders of the party.
He said that Hon. Kehinde Odebunmi has been chosen as the Chairman of the reconciliation committee alongside Rt. Hon. Tunji Odeyemi.
He said: “It’s a welcome development because the problem we have been having in the party is that of leadership and how to unite the party because we are having so many factions in the party.
“After the last gubernatorial election, we had serious problems even during the course of the election, most of our party members decamped to SDP which reduced the number of our party members.
“Since then we have been finding it difficult to bring our party together. Now we have seen it that we should come together to salvage the party and it is coming from our leaders that have not been working together before. It is a very good development and it shows the party is moving forward in the right direction.
“We have chosen two of our leaders as the chairmen of reconciliation committee. They will know how to manage our leaders. Those who are still disgruntled and those who are still having one or two things against themselves. They know them and they will know how to bring the leaders together.
“We have Hon. Kehinde Odebunmi as the Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee from Ekiti West and we have Rt. Hon. Tunji Odeyemi, former Acting Governor of the State from Gboyin LGA. They will be able to manage the reconciliation process because of their experience and leverage among the leaders.
“My advice to the party members is that they should come together and let us work together. Congress is coming very soon. Hopefully Congress is coming up in May and the reconciliation will help to unite the party for the coming election in 2026.”
