Catherine O’Hara revealed that she was “shocked and excited” to present the Emmy for the Outstanding Comedy Series on Sunday ― before surprising attendees with a move of her own.

O’Hara ― an Emmy winner herself for her role in “Schitt’s Creek” ― walked onstage with an envelope meant to contain the winning show’s name. But then she questioned why the Television Academy “must” choose just one winner, and ripped up the cue card inside.

“You know and all the nominees have done such wonderful, hilarious work. Must we?” asked O’Hara, as she tore the card to pieces and tossed them on the stage.

Her reaction made the audience all but certain that “The Bear” had snagged the Best Comedy honor ― which would’ve been a controversial pick, as not everyone believes it counts as a comedy.

She then pulled a replacement card out from behind her back.

“Yes, apparently, we must,” O’Hara said.

She then revealed that “Hacks,” which was up for 16 nominations at the ceremony, ultimately took home the top comedy award.
