The 76th Emmy Awards is already off to a hot start ahead of Sunday night’s highly anticipated ceremony airing on ABC.
The star-studded award show returns several months after last year’s show was moved to January due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes that stalled the industry. The 2024 Creative Arts Emmys already saw Hollywood stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Jon Bernthal and more take home awards. But there are still plenty of statues to hand out Sunday as the best in television will gather to see the final winners be crowned.
FX’s “Shōgun” is expected to extend its historic run, having already earned 14 Emmys, a record for most wins in a single year. The network’s “The Bear” has collected seven honors so far, including for best guest stars and casting in a comedy series, and it’s still a nominee in numerous other categories. It could very well break its own record for the most Emmys won for a single season — the show took home 10 for its first.
Others already on the winners list are Angela Bassett, who finally snagged her first Emmy win for narrating National Geographic’s “Queens,” and Maya Rudolph, who won for Outstanding Character Voiceover Performance in Netflix’s “Big Mouth.” Michaela Coel scored a win for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”
On the comedy front, shows including “Only Murders in the Building,” “Abbott Elementary” and “Hacks” are up for a handful of awards. Meanwhile, “The Crown,” “The Gilded Age,” “The Morning Show” and more will duke it out in the drama categories.
“Schitt’s Creek” stars, and father-son duo, Eugene and Dan Levy will host the television celebration.
Will the funny pair deliver? Will “Shōgun” continue to dominate the competition? Will someone give another tear-filled acceptance speech? Much awaits us during the 76th Emmy Awards.
