Donald Trump keeps digging himself into a deeper hole.
“Late Night” host Seth Meyers on Thursday broke down an example of that behavior from Trump’s interview with Elon Musk earlier this week. At one point during the glitch-plagued livestream on Musk’s X social media platform, the Republican nominee praised the billionaire for his anti-union stances, lauding him for supposedly firing employees that threaten to go on strike.
“I owe Trump an apology. Meyers said on his show Thursday. “I used to think he was an Olympic-level idiot, but I was wrong.”
“Only a genius chess master Jedi wizard would do a conference call on a dying app with a South African vampire, and after a 40-minute technical delay, brag about how awesome it is to fire people during a campaign where the number one issue is jobs,” he continued.
The United Auto Workers union on Tuesday filed federal labor charges against Trump and Musk, accusing them of attempting to intimidate workers who plan to strike.
Trump’s campaign has been flailing in recent weeks, as the former president, ignoring Republican advice to focus on policy issues, leans increasingly into personal attacks and conspiratorial claims while Vice President Kamala Harris overtakes him in many polls.
