Charlize Theron joked about parenting being a double-edged sword as she gave a glimpse into her life with daughters Jackson, 11, and August, 9, over the weekend.
The “Mad Max: Fury Road” star said her two girls can be a handful while speaking to E! News at a Saturday event for her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, a foundation focusing on HIV and other issues.
“Oh, my God, they’re so embarrassed by me constantly,” she revealed. “They’re kids, they’re girls, you know? I have a preteen and I feel like I have a nine year old who thinks she’s a 13 year old. It’s a lot of girl in our house.”
She added: “I’m just trying to keep my head above water, because they are smart and they are witty and they are firecrackers, but they do not go, ‘Oh my god, Mom, you’re so amazing.’ They’re like, ‘Excuse me, I need. I want.’”
Theron said her girls were “normal kids,” noting that they also have prickly sides.
“They’re a―holes, but they’re really nice,” she joked, adding, “Other parents know what I’m talking about.”
While the star has kept her family life fairly private since adopting Jackson in 2012 and August in 2015, she’s always been frank about the tough parts of motherhood.
In November, Theron told People that being “a parent in general is a nice hard.”
“When you’re in it, you’re like, ‘I’m never going to survive this,’” she said at the time. “And then you get to the other side, you’re like, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing. I can’t believe I did that.’”
