Actor Anthony Anderson earned a couple of bleeps from ABC on Monday night as he filled in for late night host Jimmy Kimmel just days after Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt.

“All weekend, I kept thinking, ‘I wonder what Jimmy Kimmel’s gonna say about this on Monday,’” he said, then got his first bleep: “And then I was like, ‘Oh shit! I am Jimmy Kimmel on Monday.’”

But before he got started with the jokes, Anderson ― who is hosting all week ― had a message.

“In all seriousness, I do wanna say that our thoughts are with the families of the victims,” he said, before getting his second bleep: “And that hopefully, this will be a moment that we can all take a step back from the hatred and vitriol in our politics and maybe chill the fuck out.”

He also had some advice for coping with the current climate.

“Do not go on the internet!” he urged, then launched into the evening’s jokes.
