Actor Eric Roberts is opening up about why he rarely publicly speaks about his Oscar-winning sister, Julia Roberts, and his actor daughter, Emma Roberts.
During Monday’s episode of the “Still Here Hollywood” podcast, the “Dark Knight” star, 68, spoke about some family matters after host Steve Kmetko asked about how the “Pretty Woman” actor has been doing.
“You’ll have to ask her,” Roberts replied. “I love my sister, but I can’t talk about her. She [doesn’t] wanna talk about it.”
The actor explained why he’s generally hush-hush about his relationship with his younger sibling, who is known for her countless acclaimed roles in films such as “Erin Brockovich” and “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”
According to Eric Roberts, his daughter Emma, 33, shares the same feelings.
“My daughter told me also not to talk about her, but I stumble and do,” he said of the “American Horror Story” actor. “I’m not supposed to talk about them. But I do.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Roberts, who has appeared in hundreds of films, including “The Expendables” and “Star 80,” apparently couldn’t resist squeezing in a few words about Emma nonetheless.
“I am in love with my daughter’s work these days,” he gushed. “Like, I can’t believe how great she’s become.”
“I’m so proud of her I can’t see straight. Since her performance in ‘Maybe I Do’ until right now, she overwhelms me with pride and just, ‘Oh, my God, here she goes again,’” he added. “And I’m just so happy to be her dad because she’s kicking ass. And I’m so proud.”
Emma began her acting career in the early 2000s and has risen to fame after starring in multiple projects, including “Nancy Drew,” “Scream 4” and “Madame Web.”
Roberts then admitted that he has contributed “absolutely nothing” to his daughter’s Hollywood career.
“Except I gave her that name,” he added.
Emma Roberts recently addressed the internet’s heated debate surrounding “nepo babies,” or children whose success is perceived as the advantage of nepotism.
The term went viral on social media after a New York magazine cover story in 2022 highlighted children of celebrities who benefited from family connections.
Though Emma wasn’t mentioned in the article, she spoke up about the dark side of having a famous dad and aunt in an interview with Flaunt magazine earlier this month.
“I’ve lost more jobs than I’ve gained from being in the business,” Emma Roberts explained “People have opinions and sometimes maybe they’re not good opinions of people in your family. I’ve never gotten a job because of it, I know I definitely have lost a couple of jobs because of it.”
