The 2024 BET Awards — celebrating “culture’s biggest night” — kicked off at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Taraji P. Henson returned as the host for the award ceremony, her third time as emcee. The ceremony went forward following a red carpet event, which showcased several stunning and show-stopping looks from celebrities.

Megan Thee Stallion opened the show with a fiery performance of her song, “Hiss.” Henson then took the stage to perform a fun parody of Kendrick’s Lamar’s song, “Not Like Us” — a diss track aimed at Drake.

Drake, the Canadian rapper whose much talked-about rap beef with Lamar has made headlines in recent months, led the BET Award nominations this year with seven nods.

Usher, who racked up four nominations for this year’s show, received the Lifetime Achievement BET Award. He was honored with a star-studded tribute, which featured covers of his songs by Keke Palmer, Donald Glover, Coco Jones and several other artists.

And Will Smith delivered an emotional performance of his new original song, “You Can Make It,” featuring Fridayy and Sunday Service.
