Justin Timberlake doesn’t appear to be taking his recent legal woes too seriously.
As he took the stage in Boston on Saturday, the pop star seemed ready to joke about his recent arrest for reportedly driving while intoxicated.
Video of the star addressing fans at his Forget Tomorrow World Tour show at the TD Garden caught the star playfully wondering, “So uh, is there anyone here tonight that is driving and ... no I’m just kidding.”
Timberlake followed the quip by saying, “For all of you that it’s your first time tonight — on a serious note — I hope that you feel the fellowship and the love.”
The comment was almost certainly an allusion to the “Cry Me a River” singer’s June 18 arrest in Sag Harbor, New York.
According to arrest reports, Timberlake was pulled over and taken into police custody after an officer witnessed him running a stop sign and swerving in and out of traffic lanes.
After being stopped, arrest reports say the singer “performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”
During the stop, Timberlake reportedly told authorities that he only “had one martini” and was on his way to follow his friends home.
The NSYNC alum broke his silence regarding his arrest during his June 21 concert in Chicago, where he told fans, “We’ve been together through ups and downs, lefts and rights. It’s been a tough week. But you’re here, and I’m here, and nothing can change this moment right now.”
“I know sometimes I’m hard to love. But you keep on loving me, and I love you right back. Thank you so much,” he went on.
Timberlake’s lawyer has maintained the pop star’s innocence.
In a June 19 statement, attorney Edward Burke Jr. said he “looks forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations” and was “currently awaiting full discovery from the DA’s office.”
Timberlake is scheduled for a virtual court appearance on July 26 while he’ll be embarking on the European leg of his world tour.
