Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra recently shared her experiences of facing rejections in the movie industry. She recounted instances where she was rejected for roles, citing one occasion when she lost out on an opportunity simply because ‘somebody’s girlfriend’ was cast in her place.

On the podcast Read The Room, Priyanka said that dealing with rejections is not easy. She said, “It’s hard. Especially in a job based on validation. Whether it is how many people come and watch your movie or what your director thinks about your performance or what your casting agent thinks, it is all subjective.”

She continued, “I have seen so much rejection in the movie industry for so many reasons. Whether I wasn’t right for the role, whether it was favourtism, whether it was that somebody’s girlfriend was cast, like there are so many reasons it happened. I made peace a long time ago. It is real. We can all say ‘I am better than that, I am confident’. It is not true. You have to allow yourself to feel the rejection. It’s like grieving. I am someone who does it. I will move on. I will brush it aside. Long time ago, I came to peace with rejection at work.”

Previously in an interview with Simi Garewal, Priyanka had shared that nobody in Bollywood wanted to work with her. She described feeling close to being broken and mentioned a phase of complete rejection for about a year and a half, starting at the age of 18. She said, “The first couple of years was really bad, because I did not trust anyone—which film was right, which not to do. I had a phase where none of my films were starting and I was wondering what was I doing here, and I was close to going back to college.”

In 2023, talking to Dax Shepherd, Priyanka had opened up about being pushed in a corner in Bollywood. She said, “I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break.”
