Kangana Ranaut, who has recently started her political career, is no stranger to controversies. Recently, Kangana was verbally attacked by members of Congress and when she expressed her grievance up about their harsh and unjust comments at a recent summit, she was asked about her comments on Urmila Matondkar, which were of similar nature. A few years ago, Kangana called Urmila a “soft porn” actor and the distasteful comment was not appreciated by Urmila’s fans. Now, when Kangana was asked to explain her comment, she questioned why the term “porn star” was seen as distasteful as many porn actors are well respected.

“Is soft porn or porn star an objectionable term? No. It is not an objectionable term. It is a word that is not socially acceptable. Humare desh mein jitna porn star ko respect milta hai, puchiye Sunny Leone se, utna respect poore world mein kisiko nahi mil sakta (No other country treats porn stars with such respect as we do, you can ask Sunny Leone),” she said at the Times Now Summit.

Kangana said that there are “different realms” of art and “intellectually motivating” art is superior to “massy art.” She implied that her body of work was “ravishing” as compared to Urmila’s filmography. She also underlined that she had never done any “item numbers.” “I was asked to comment on Urmila ji (Matondkar) asking on what basis was the BJP considering me for a foray into politics. That was her question. I believe there are different realms of art. Sensational art, the one we refer to as massy art, which only titillates or physically stimulates you, that is also an art form. However, that can never be superior to the art that is intellectually motivating, one which stimulates your mind. I personally believe that I belong to that balanced cinema artiste tribe. I have never done item numbers. So, all I said was that if she could join a party (Congress) with her kind of filmography, then I have a more ravishing body of work,” she said.

Kangana then spoke about the culture of item songs in Bollywood and said that women in Bollywood are comfortable with terms like “tandoori murgi”, so why a term like “soft porn actor” was seen as “violating. “If they are happy calling themselves tandoori murgi, item girl, Sheila ki jawani, why is it seen something as violating? It is a matter of fact. If they are comfortable with that, why do you want to shame her about it? I personally do not think that I had the intention of shaming her (Urmila) because they are very comfortable in that role,” she said.

Kangana said that she respects Urmila’s art and said that “seduction is an art form.” “All I tried to say is that I respect your art, and seduction is an art form. If I respect your art, why don’t you respect my art?”

Kangana Ranaut will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate from Mandi.
